English Language School - ELS (HIS 233/234, 332/333)

Do you want to be able to communicate with people from many different nations? Then you need to learn English, the worldwide language of communication. English will open doors for you in many nations and help you advance the Kingdom of God in the earth. At the English Language School at YWAM Worcester we will help you achieve your dream to learn English while also growing in your relationship with God and your calling.

   Terms:

Each term lasts 11 weeks. We offer four different levels at once, so you can begin your studies at any time of the year. When you arrive, we will assess you and place you in a level according to your English ability. Most students will be placed in Level 1 or Level 2, so we recommend that you plan to study for one year. After successfully completing Level 4, students will have achieved a sufficient level in English to do a DTS or another course in YWAM.
Our teachers and staff come from South Africa, Brazil, Korea, and the United States.

   Program:

We seek to maintain a high standard of academic excellence and therefore have an intensive program each term. In class students gain a firm foundation in English grammar, broaden their vocabulary, improve pronunciation and intonation, practice situational dialogues, prepare oral presentations on a variety of subjects, write essays, prepare dramas and short skits, listen to English news and many other activities.

ELS   Outside of class, students have the opportunity to practice the English that they learn in the classroom as they live and worship and work alongside people from many different nations. In the afternoons, all students participate in work duties to help maintain our base. They also have the opportunity to attend optional extra classes.

We believe that learning involves not only your mind but also your spirit and your emotions. Therefore students are required to attend base worship and intercession where they have further opportunities to practice their English while also growing in their relationship with God. Students are also part of regular small group meetings where they can find support for things like culture shock and personal struggles.

Once a week, students go on outreach to a local farm school for underprivileged children. Here the students sing songs and teach and play games with the children as they share the love of God with them in English.

Finally, at the English Language School we come from many different nations, but we are one family in Christ. We have a lot of fun as a family with outings to local cultural sites, fun days, dramas, parties, and much more. Come and join us next term at the English Language School!

   Housing:

All students live in simple dormitory style accommodation. Couples and families are given a private room with shared bathroom facilities.
