Addiction is a systemic reality, a global problem that is destroying individuals, families and communities. The Addictive Behaviour Counseling School is designed for those who desire to be God’s vessel of hope to those hopelessly caught in addiction. This school provides an opportunity for students to gain the skills that will enable them to facilitate God’s healing, recovery, growth and transformation to the addicted. In the context of the ABC community, each student participates in a discipleship/restoration process through skills application that leads to personal growth throughout both phases of the school.
Phase one is a three-month classroom segment which includes a review of and practice of counseling skills. Group and core functions of addiction will be covered. Students will also acquire and assimilate information on addiction and other addictive behavioral patterns, practicing process, support and change group techniques and learning to teach and conduct seminars.
This phase gives students practical experience to strengthen what was learned in school as well as sharpen the students’ skills. The emphasis is on educational awareness, counseling individuals and families, facilitating family meetings, leading process and change groups, starting a support group, and teaching communities about addictions.
This course is NOT a national SAQA accredited qualification.
